Swedish Course
Swedish call their language Svenska,
spoken by approximately 8 million inhabitants of Sweden, 300,000 people
in Finland. It belongs to the North Germanic sub-group of the
Indo-European language family (English is in the West Germanic
sub-group), which includes Danish, Norwegian, Iceland, and Faroese. It
closely resembles Danish and Norwegian, especially in written form with
grammar and syntax very similar to English, more so than German or
French. Many Swedish words are easily recognizable by English speakers,
and even more so by the Germans. We thus conclude that Swedish is a
relatively easy language for English speakers to learn. Pronunciation is
a little difficult at first, especially the vowels. a beginner should
listen to a native to get a good grasp of the Swedish sounds.
Level I - Basic For Beginners.
Course structure:
This level teaches basic fundamental vocabulary, structure of Swedish
and the sound system. Understanding, speaking, reading and writing
besides grammar and simple conversation are taught. Writing business
letters and essays, answering questions on comprehension of simple
texts, stimulated dialogues, role-playing and the study of Swedish
culture and life styles are the other highlights of this course.
On course completion the student will be able to:
Comprehend the spoken language from vocabulary used in text. Read and
understand the language of the specific level. Recognize correct sound
patterns. Write exercises using grammar knowledge studied. Know cultural
elements of the Swedish societies. Sustain a conversation within the
framework of the vocabulary studied.
Duration: Two and a half months.
Level II - Intermediate
Course eligibility: For those who
know the basic level of Swedish language.
Course structure:
Covering the intermediate level of conversation, discussion, essays
writing, culture of the country, business and life sciences. This course
helps the students to improve their fluency and speak correctly.
On course completion one will be
confident to:
Use and understand Swedish in the text. Write with a wide vocabulary.
Read with improved ability. Demonstrate a developing empathy for the
Swedish culture. Form questions and answers based on familiar material.
Sustain an extended conversation using vocabulary studied.
Special Projects: workbook and
library research.
Duration: Two and half months.
Level III - Advanced
Course eligibility: For those who
want to specialize in the language.
Course structure:
This level covers written comprehension and expressions in a particular
area of studies besides oral communication. On completion the students
will be able to teach , translate and take higher studies in Sweden. The
third level of Swedish make you to understand the skills of listening,
speaking, reading and writing, besides developing individual interests
in reading materials and cultural items. Short stories, plays, essays,
poetry and biographies are read using a vast vocabulary. Swedish is used
extensively in class during discussions and role-playing.
On course completion the student will be guaranteed to:
Understand and use the language and vocabulary in the text. Speak, read
and write with improved ability and a wide vocabulary. Understand and be
understood by a native speakers. Understand Swedish used in the text and
supplemental materials. Translate from English to Swedish while
demonstrating grammatical skills. Acquire a deeper understanding of the
Swedish culture.. Form questions and answers based on material read or
discussed Engage in special projects: Work book, library research,
project work
Duration: Two and half months.
On course completion of each level and attending the test, the students
will get a certificate from World Language Lab.
